License Management Problems Resolution
License management installation for Wind River has been automated using the Internet. For the majority of users with Internet access, license management installation for system administrators and end-users can be completed as part of the installation process while running the SETUP program.
To reload an existing license for an existing host or to reconfigure license management go to SETUP and run SETUP /L. Look for buttons that indicate 'Check this box to reload your existing license file.' And check it before proceeding.
It is recommended that the license file you receive from Wind River be named WRSLicense.lic and that it be placed at the default path /license. Note that for the remainder of the document, the location of the license file can be in a default path (sometimes referreed to as $WIND_BASE/.wind/license, or $WIND_BASE/license) or a user designated path. For more instructions concerning manually installing floating and nodelocked licenses please read the section entitled 'Manual License Management Instructions' at the end of this document. If you wish to combine license files from other vendors, please read Chapter 3 'Multiple License Files' in the End Users Manual available from Globetrotter at www.globetrotter.com.
A web-based version of automated license retrieval is available at http://www.windriver.com/ali. [For Tornado 2.2, go to http://www.windriver.com/corporate/support/alm] Please be prepared to type in your installation key and/or your Wind River license number (that comes in your sales agreement form). Once you get your license, follow the instructions in the section entitled 'Manual License Management Instructions' below.

Manual License Management Instructions
For users behind a firewall without access to the internet, manual instructions for license management installation follows:
1. System administrators
The following is for system administrators or personnel who are setting up
to run floating license management or node-locked license management.
Insert the product CD into your machine's CD ROM drive.
Run the Setup program at the root of the CD image.
Please step through the Setup program, until you reach the 'Installation Options'
page. Please select of the 'Floating License Server Installation' option and click
'Next.'
In the 'License Management Utilities Installation' page, type or select the directory
path where you want the license daemon and other utilites to be installed. Click
'Next.' This will install all the license daemons and license management utilites for
you.
The 'License Management Installation Options' page allows you to choose the
method by which to contact Wind River to configure and get a license file for
your server. Since you are behind a firewall, the only options available to you are
'email' or 'phone or fax.' Please select one or the other.
Next you'll see a 'Configuration' page that allows you to enter the number of licenses
you want this server host to control and dispense. Please enter the number of licenses
that you desire for each product, and click next.
The next page summarizes the information that will be sent or must be told to our license administrators. If you are using email, and have connection to the outside, just click 'Next.'
If you are using a telephone of a fax machine, cut and paste the information and write
it to a file for your own record. Then call or fax the information to our license administrators.
You'll need to call our license administrators at (510) 749-2333,
or send email to license@windriver.com, or send a fax to
(510) 749-2823.
In summary, the information you'll need to supply is:
a) hostID of the machine to be the license server
b) hostName - the name of the license server host
c) your Customer License number that is on your sales receipt
or if you don't have that, supply the installation key for the CD
d) number of licenses to be served for each licensed Wind River product
E.g. We want 3 licenses for tornado, 3 for Windview.
e) Your contact information (name, address, phone, email).
Our license administrators will then validate your request, and supply you
with a license file that you must install on your server. We recommend that
the license file be installed in the default directory. For some products that
default path is /.wind/license, and for others
it is /license please read your installation guide. If that
directory path doesn't exists, please create it and install the file as WRSLicense.lic.
For Floating license management:
Next you'll need to run the license daemon:
On Unix: in the /host/sun4-solaris2/bin directory, execute the
lmgrd daemon
% lmgrd -c /WRSLicense.lic -x lmdown -l
Note: check the path where your WRSLicense.lic license file is located and substitute it in
place of Mario kart wii character mods.
On Windows: (You may need to reboot to see the flexlm control) In the control panel,
double click 'Flexlm license manager' icon to start it. Then click on the 'Setup' tab.
There you'll be able to enter the path to the license file which typically would be
'WRSLicense.lic.'
Click on the 'Control' tab and start the LIcense Server daemon.
For node-locked license management:
There is no need to start a license server daemon. Set the environment variable
LM_LICENSE_FILE to point to the path of the license file (please replace with the location
of your license file):
On Unix:
C shell:
setenv LM_LICENSE_FILE /WRSLicense.lic
Bash, sh:
LM_LICENSE_FILE=/WRSLicense.lic
export LM_LICENSE_FILE
Please substitute the path to your license file for
On Windows:
Bring up the control panel. Then click on the 'system' icon.
Next click on the 'Environment' tab.
Under 'System Variables' define a new variable LM_LICENSE_FILE with
the value /WRSLicense.lic.
2. End users
These instructions are for end users who have already installed the products or
tools from the installation media and need to configure their environment for license management manually.
If you desire to configure license manually, an environment
variable LM_LICENSE_FILE needs to be set to the name of the
license server host. Please ask your system administrator for the server
name and set the environment variable to it. The format of
LM_LICENSE_FILE value is:
port@server
where 'port' is the port which is set by your system administrator.
Port number can be left blank if using the default port (which is 27000).
'server' is the name of the license server host.

License Management Configuration for laptops with a docking station (Windows only)
If you are installing a Tornado product on a laptop with multiple NIC cards, and if you are installing a node-locked license, (the most common case), you should use the disk serial number rather than a MAC address (the default) as your host ID.
Each NIC card has its own MAC address, and if you register your installation with one of them (let's say the docking station), you will not be able to run licensed Tornado products when the laptop is used stand-alone. The docking station's NIC card is the master when the laptop is docked, and the laptop's NIC card is the master when it is used stand-alone. The license management software can only use one or the other as host ID, not both.
Tornado 2.2
To use your disk serial number as the host ID, check the box in the Database Query Permission dialog box during your Tornado installation. This option is only offered for node-locked license installation. It is not an issue for floating license installation or for license server installation.
Tornado 3.x
Contact Wind River License Administration to have your node-locked license reset, using the disk serial number as the host ID.
To obtain the disk serial number:
Open a command prompt window and type 'dir c:' at the prompt.
On the 2nd line of the response you'll see a line similar to:
Volume in drive C is WINNT Serial number is 1130:16DD
Your host ID is the serial number with the ':' or '-' removed and prepended with 'DISK_SERIAL_NUMBER='. , e.g. DISK_SERIAL_NUMBER=113016DD
